Personnel Travel Consultants & Personnel Travel Temps

As the travel industry has evolved so has staffing the travel industry. Back in the 80 and 90’s we saw a huge demand for travel professionals. Companies did not have enough staff. Agents would literally go from job to job to earn more money with no stability or loyalty to their positions. In the mid to late 90’s some agents left their jobs to become floaters. In 2001, we saw major transformations that would forever change our industry . Many blamed September 11th, however the changes really began January of 2001. Our economy was changing, on-line booking tools became more prominent, commission cutting began to take a toll causing most agencies and personnel businesses to struggle...  Then came 9/11 and what was already bad got even worse. It seemed as though the travel industry was fading away.  We, like many,  hung in having to cut back on employees, commissions, etc.

After 2001, the travel business did not know how to proceed.  Businesses did not want to hire more staff because they did not know if business would stay busy enough to keep them on. So from 2002-2005 the temporary travel agent took on a new role. No longer were there National Floaters. More companies wanted temp agents to fill the busy times in their offices.  The temporary business still continues to grow as growth has been slow, but steady.

In 2006 the demand for agents was up again. The temps that had stuck it out found themselves with new jobs, not only more temporary positions, but permanent positions as well.  We are now trying to bring back those people who have left to pick up from where they have left off. Now here we are in 2007 - 2008, permanent staffing is up and temporary staffing is down.
